Karate for Children and Young People in Baden: More Than Movement

← Back to news

From January 2027, Okawa Dojo Baden will offer Kyokushin Karate classes for children aged 7 to 11 and juniors aged 12 to 14. In dedicated groups, they will learn the foundations of karate through movement, focused practice and training together.

Kyokushin is a physically active style of karate. It also asks students to move with intention, pay attention and treat others with respect. This combination gives young people different ways to learn and challenge themselves.

What happens in a karate class?

Our training includes kihon, kata and kumite. Each presents a different challenge.

In kihon, children practise fundamentals such as stances and individual techniques. Repeating a movement can be demanding. Over time, they begin to notice what changes when they stand more precisely, breathe more consciously or coordinate their arms and legs more effectively.

In kata, they connect techniques in a set sequence of movements. Remembering the order is only part of the task: they also need to find their bearings, stay focused and learn to continue after a mistake.

In kumite, they practise with a partner. Distance, timing and reactions become important, as does controlling their own movements and paying attention to the person they train with. We introduce children and juniors to this part of karate in an age-appropriate way.

Why persistence matters to us

A new technique rarely works on the first attempt. Learning takes repetition and feedback. Children do not have to know how to do everything when they enter the dojo. They can try, ask questions and discover how practice leads to progress.

Respect is part of that process: listening, practising together and taking responsibility for the shared training environment. Every child brings different strengths and develops along their own path.

Understanding your body and standing up for yourself

Kyokushin Karate also teaches foundations for self-defence. Children, teenagers and adults learn to apply techniques, judge distance and stay attentive during physical exertion.

Through training, they discover their strengths and limits: How do I react when challenged? How can I use my strength purposefully and control my movements? These experiences can build confidence in their own abilities. For us, karate also means learning to use those abilities responsibly – both in training and outside the dojo.

Kids and Juniors from January 2027

For younger children, we make the introduction varied and suited to their age. In their own group, juniors have room to develop technically and physically and to take a more active role in their training. Neither group requires previous karate experience.

  • Kids, ages 7–11: Wednesday, 17:30–18:30

  • Juniors, ages 12–14: Monday, 18:00–19:00 & Wednesday 19:00–20:30

Both groups train at Okawa Dojo Baden. From age 15, students can join our regular adult classes.

We look forward to building these new groups in January. If your child would like to discover karate, you can find more information about the classes and registration on our training pages.
